Privacy Notice

Players give us a display name and an emoji, and nothing else. Creators have an account, so we hold a little more. Nobody's data is sold.

1. Who is responsible

BootStartUp R&D LTD, an Israeli company registered under number 516064441 and trading as BoardRemix.com, decides how and why personal data is processed on BoardRemix. In data protection terms we are the controller.

This notice covers the BoardRemix website, the Studio where games are made, and the game tables where they are played. Reach us at support@boardremix.com.

2. Two very different roles

Almost everything below depends on which of these you are, so it is worth separating them up front.

  • Players join a game night by entering a room code or scanning a QR. There is no account, no sign-in, no password and no email. You choose a display name and an emoji so the other people at the table know whose turn it is. That is the whole record of you.
  • Creators and hosts sign in to make and host games, and may pay us. We hold an account for you.

3. What we hold about players

  • The display name and emoji you pick when you join. Pick a nickname if you would rather not use your real name — nothing depends on it being accurate.
  • The moves you make in the game, and any question you ask the referee, for as long as the game night is running.
  • Your network address, held briefly and used only to stop one machine from flooding the service. It is not attached to your name or kept as a profile.

We do not ask players for an email address, we do not track players across sites, and we do not build advertising profiles of anyone.

4. What we hold about creators and hosts

  • Account details — your name, email address and profile picture. If you sign in through a third-party identity provider, that provider confirms your identity to us and passes those details; we never receive your password.
  • The games you make — your descriptions, the conversation in the Studio, the generated rulebooks and boards, and the versions you keep.
  • Usage and billing records — which actions consumed credits, your plan, your renewal date and your purchase history. We do not see or store your card details at any point; the payment is handled by our merchant of record, described in section 6.
  • Technical records — a sign-in cookie so you stay signed in across BoardRemix, and server logs including network addresses, used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults.

5. Why we process it, and on what basis

  • To provide the service — compiling your game, running your table, keeping you signed in, taking payment. This is necessary to perform our contract with you.
  • To keep it working and safe — abuse prevention, capacity limits, fault diagnosis, and reviewing games submitted for publication. This is our legitimate interest in running a service that stays up and does not host other people’s stolen work.
  • To meet legal duties — tax and accounting records for purchases.
  • With your consent — website analytics, and anything optional we may add later such as product email. Analytics runs only if you agree to it when we ask, and nothing about the service changes if you do not. You can withdraw consent at any time; section 11 says how.

We do not use your games to train AI models, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.

6. Who else sees it

We share the minimum necessary, with these categories of recipient, each bound by contract to use it only for the service they provide us:

  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure — the servers and databases that run BoardRemix and store your games.
  • AI model services — your game description and rulebook text are sent to be turned into a playable game and to answer questions at the table.
  • Our merchant of record, who sells the purchase to you, takes the payment and handles tax and invoicing. They collect your payment and billing details directly and act as their own controller for that; we receive only the record that a purchase happened.
  • Identity providers you choose to sign in with, which confirm to us that you are who you say you are.
  • Google Analytics, and only if you agreed to it. It tells us which pages people use and roughly where in the world they are — it never receives your name, your email address, your games or anything typed at a table. See section 11.
  • Authorities, where the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety or our rights.

Other players at your table see your display name, your emoji and your public moves. That is the point of a game.

7. Where it is processed

We are based in Israel and our infrastructure is in the European Union. Some of the recipients above process data in other countries, including the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the UK, it is protected by an adequacy decision or by standard contractual clauses. Israel holds an EU adequacy decision. You can ask us for details of the safeguards that apply.

8. How long we keep it

  • Player data — a game night’s state lives while the room is open and is cleared shortly after it ends. A summary of the finished session may be kept so the host can see what happened.
  • Your account and games — for as long as your account is open. Delete a game and it goes; close your account and we remove your personal data.
  • Purchase records — kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically seven years, even after an account is closed.
  • Security logs — a short period, then deleted or aggregated.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or receive it in a portable form. Write to support@boardremix.com and we will answer within one month.

If you are a player rather than an account holder, tell us the room code and the display name you used and we will find what little there is.

You can also complain to your local data protection authority, or to the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority. We would rather you told us first.

10. Children

BoardRemix is built for family game nights, and children play. That is intended, and it is why players hold no account: a child at your table gives us a nickname and an emoji, and nothing more.

An account, however, is for adults. You must be at least 16 to hold one, and only an account holder can make purchases. The host of a game night is responsible for the people they invite into the room, including any children. If you believe a child has given us more than a display name, tell us and we will delete it.

11. Cookies

Two cookies are strictly necessary, so they are set without asking: the one that keeps you signed in across BoardRemix, and the one that remembers your answer to the question below. Neither is used to track you.

Beyond those we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and see which pages get used. We ask before it loads — the first time you arrive, a notice offers “Allow analytics” and “No thanks”, and neither answer is preselected. Until you choose to allow it, no analytics cookie is set and nothing is requested from Google at all. If you say no, that is the end of it and the site works exactly the same.

Your answer is remembered for six months across boardremix.com and its subdomains, so you are asked once rather than three times. To change it, clear this site’s cookies in your browser and the notice will appear again, or write to support@boardremix.com.

We run no advertising cookies, we do not let anyone follow you from here to other companies’ sites, and we have turned off the setting that would let Google use this data for its own advertising. If any of that changes, we will ask you again before it does.

12. Changes and contact

If we change this notice materially, we will post the new version here with a new effective date and, where it matters, tell account holders directly. Read this alongside our Terms of Service.

Questions about this document go to support@boardremix.com. We answer in English and Hebrew.
